. >> greta: john bolton joins us, ambassador, at the hearing today senator hagel is a republican. he got grilled by fellow republicans, didn't he? >> it wasn't so much the questions although they were stiff as the answers. this was a debacle for chuck hagel today. if his nomination is defeated, we'll look back and say this was the place where it went down in flames. not only was he not able to defend many of his earlier statements, but he demonstrated a lack of command over the subject matter that he would be responsible for if confirmed. he couldn't identify what the obama administration's policy was. i think one of the telling exchanges changes when he first said that he supported containing a nuclear iran. someone hands him and a note and reads the note, i guess i misspoke. we don't have a policy on containing a nuclear iran and senator levin has to tell him, we do have a policy. we're not in favor of containment. we want to prevent iran from getting a nuclear weapon in the first place. the senator hagel can't even get that right, i think it really left his supporters on that committe

:30, another press conference will be held in new orleans. coaches jim and john harbaugh are expected to speak this morning. kron four's will tran is also live from new orleans with the latest on what's happening down there just days before the super bowl. we'll be checking in with him at 4:30. in preparation for the super bowl, the niners practiced outside yesterday for the first time in new orleans. and the baltimore ravens were briefly right nearby. the niners practice overlapped for 10 minutes with the ravens, although drapes from local merchants were used to separate the practices and ensure privacy. coach jim harbaugh credited the collaborative effort to quote ""cooperating sprits."" practice has been held inside at tulane university the last few days due to weather conditions. linebackers aldon smith and ahmad brooks were limited in practice for the second day with shoulder injuries. >> and we all know that when the raven and the niners play each other on sunday, their coaches will make n-f- l history. melissa raney has more on the story behind the brothers. >> this sunday, tens of boun

hometown. let's bring in john berman in new york, so what will be the mayor's political legacy you think? >> carol i don't think you can overstate his political legacy. for more than ten years ed koch was synonymous with new york. new york city was teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and by sheer force of will and a pr salesman, ed koch really lifted new york out from the doldrums and in a statement today the current mayor michael bloomberg said new york city lost an irrepressable icon our most charismatic lecheerleader and champion. ed koch has been out of office for more than 20 years but still had tremendous, tremendous reach in this city. his political ideology changed over the years. he was a four-term congressman before he was mayor, a liberal, a real liberal in new york city, then he shifted to the right over his time as the mayor, and then in 2004 he actually endorsed george w. bush for the presidency. he was controversial at times, a lot of heated racial conflict in new york city in his time as mayor but when you think back at the legacy which was your original question it was
